Undergraduate education: I graduated in 2007 with a BSc in Pharmacy from the National University of Singapore. The title of my Honors thesis was "The Effect of 3’UTR of HIC mRNA on Recombinant Protein Production in Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells".The project was done at the Bioprocessing Technology Institute of Agency for Science, Technology, and Research Singapore under the supervision of Dr. Jimmy Sheng-Hao Chao and Professor Sui-Yung Chan.
Statement of research interests: I am highly motivated to work in the area of molecular neuroscience/neurobiology. The major questions at the heart of molecular neuroscience are how does the nervous system develop, how do neurons carry out their specialized functions, and why do they degenerate.
Currently, I am working on a protein called HMGB1 and I am investigating its potential role in neurodegeneration. The main aim of this project is to understand the effect of HMGB1 on primary cortical neurons cultures.
Expectations from Integramm: I expect the Integramm Program to provide me with a multidisciplinary and scientifically stimulating environment. By the end of the program,I hope to have developed skills such as independence, strong scientific thinking and skills and creativity, all of which are essential for a career in research.
